Supply Lists

It's no secret that middle school can be a challenging time for students, and staying organized is often one of the biggest hurdles. With multiple subjects, different teachers, and increasing workloads, it's easy for papers and assignments to get lost in the shuffle. That's why we've put together a few simple, yet effective, organizational strategies to help your student succeed.

System #1: Color-Coded Subject Folders

To help students keep track of their materials for each class, we recommend a color-coded folder (or binder divider with pockets) system:

  • Purple for Math

  • Blue for English

  • Green for Science

  • Yellow for History

  • Red for Electives

By consistently using these designated colors, students can quickly identify and file their papers, ensuring everything is in its proper place when they need it.

System #2: The 3-Folder Homework System

For managing homework and assignments, we suggest a three-folder system that guides work through its various stages:

  • Red Folder: "To Do" — This folder is for all homework and unfinished assignments that still need to be completed. It's a visual reminder of what needs attention.

  • Yellow Folder: "To Turn In" — Once an assignment is finished and ready to be submitted, it moves to the yellow folder. This ensures no completed work gets forgotten.

  • Green Folder: "Filed" — After assignments have been graded and returned by the teacher, they go into the green folder. This serves as a temporary holding spot before students file them away at home.

These systems, combined with the recommended supplies listed on our page, can make a significant difference in helping your middle schooler develop strong organizational habits and reduce stress throughout the school year.
