Attendance

Parents/Guardians, please call 925-682-8000 x7635 to report an absence on the morning your child will be absent.

RETURNING FROM AN ABSENCE
Students MUST report to the attendance office window when returning from any type of absence from school.

Bring a note signed by a parent or guardian including: First and Last names, Reason for the absence, Date(s) absent.

Bring a note to the attendance office window between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. on the day you return to school. If your parent has called in the absence, you do not need a note but you still MUST go to the attendance office window for an absence slip to return to class.

You will be given a yellow absence slip which must be signed by each of your teachers during the course of the day and then RETURNED to the office. There is a bin just inside the door to place the returned yellow slips in.

PERMISSION TO LEAVE DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Bring a written request from home stating the reason for early dismissal and the time of the dismissal.
Bring the note to the attendance office between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m.
You will be given a white permit to leave slip at the attendance office window. Bring this slip with you and show it to your teacher at the time you are to leave. You will then meet your parent/guardian in the office at the designated time.
KEEP the white slip and on the day you return, present it at the attendance office between 7:30 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. for an absence slip to return to class, showing the date and classes missed.

ARRIVING TO SCHOOL LATE
School starts promptly at 8:00a.m.
All students are expected to be at school by 7:55 a.m. at the first bell and in first period class by 8:00 a.m.
When arriving late to school, always report to the attendance office before going to class. You MUST obtain a tardy slip to be admitted to class. When tardy for a valid reason, such as a dental appointment, bring a note signed by your parent, guardian, or medical doctor explaining the tardy. The attendance secretary may call to verify the tardy.
Tardies for waking up late, transportation issues, etc. will NOT be excused. For every three tardies administrative detention will be assigned after school on Friday for 40 minutes..

TARDIES DURING THE SCHOOL DAY
Each student is to be inside his or her classroom each period when the tardy bell rings. The primary responsibility for the enforcement of punctuality to each period rests with the teacher.  VVMS tardy policy includes periodic hall sweeps. Unexcused tardy students may be assigned detention by an administrator. First and Second tardies: Teacher discretion, warning and/or calling parents. Third tardy: Friday detention 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Fifth tardy: Saturday school 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. per Quarter.

TRUANCY
The following kinds of absences are classified as truancies:
Absences from school (all day or period absences) without the knowledge or consent of the parent/guardian.
Staying out of class, without permission, while remaining on campus.
Leaving the campus or classroom during the school day or before first period.

NOTE
Students participating in any of the above absences are truant and will be required to make up the time missed in detention or work detail and will be expected to make up any missed work.
